Try to increase any playback volumes needed, like for example PCM, Master, etc. Most things seems to be working out of the box, once I turned off my onboard sound in my BIOS the soundcard kicked in. Waiting... It could be something as simple as not detecting your hardware the first time or evidence of a deeper problem.
